The Breakdown
One of the top three things I teach in dream interpretation, especially when it comes to having dreams about other people, whether you know them or even if you do not know them, is to never approach/call/text them and tell them, “I had a dream about you, and this is what happened.”
Most of the time, when this happens, you are going to offend somebody, create a warning that puts fear in them, or put doubt in their heart. None of these things come from God. So people ask me, “What do I do? What does it mean when I have dreams about other people?”
99.99% of Dreams are about you. We tend to recognize people in our dreams, and instead of looking at the message of the dream, we tend to only remember those people. We quickly want to tell them something we recognized in the dream. Most of the time, it is something bad, and sometimes it can be something good. They may lose something, gain something, or experience something, and you want to go and tell that person.
I tell people to steer clear of this because dreams are about you. God is reach you with a message about you because he loves you. God does not need help reaching someone else to give them a message. When God wants to speak to someone, He will simply get their attention through the leaders in their life, through signs and wonders, or even through dreams, just like He is giving you.
So when you have dreams about other people, what do they mean? They play a part in building the message God is giving you. God is trying to communicate with you.
As I stated before, dreams are a continued conversation. When you are awake, God is speaking with you and drawing you closer to Him. When you are asleep, that conversation is still happening, but you do not have all the distractions in life.
All throughout the Bible, God speaks through symbolism, signs and wonders, and even parables. When Jesus walked the earth, He used parables. His method of communication has never changed.
When you are having dreams about other people, they are like pillars in your dream. They are an addition to the dream, and they play a great role in the meaning of the message God is giving you. But they are there symbolically.
People in your dreams represent how you view them. Are they leaders? Are they someone you know? Are they friendly? Are they kind? Are they strangers? Are they celebrities? Are they artists? Do you idolize them? Do you reverence them? Are they authors? Are they athletes? Are they your parents? Are they your siblings? Are they deceased siblings? The list goes on.
The huge part in the message God is trying to give you through those people are the words they speaking to you, they are still contributing to the message of the dream.
Words are one of the few things in your dream that carry a one-to-one value. This means they do not carry symbolic meaning in the same way other parts of the dream do. Words in your dream usually mean exactly what they mean, especially when they are said directly to you.
When someone says something to you in your dream, and it comes from someone you honor, the message carries more weight because the person giving it to you is someone you honor.
Why God Gives Us Dreams
Dreams are a continued conversation God is having with you. When you are awake, God is speaking with you and drawing you closer to Him. When you are asleep, that same conversation continues, but without all the distractions of the world.
This is why dreams are about you. God is not showing you a sneak peek into someone else’s life. He is trying to get you to understand a message that was designed for you.
When you have a dream about another person, God is using that person as part of the message. The dream is still directed toward you. The person may help you understand the tone, weight, direction, or meaning of the dream, but God is speaking to you.
The Different People in Dreams and What They Mean
Leaders, pastors, and teachers can give you something that will edify you. They may represent instruction, wisdom, leadership, correction, or direction. The way you view them matters because people in dreams are connected to how you understand them in your natural life.
Siblings and parents are people you often trust, and they can act as guides. They may lead you to a place, tell you to go somewhere, follow you into certain places, or help move you through the dream.
People you do not know can represent the world they come from. Are they singers, artists, athletes, authors, or celebrities? What are they known for? What do they represent to you? Your understanding of who they are helps you understand the role they are playing in the dream.
What if it is someone you do not know personally, but you are familiar with them, and they are chasing you? They can represent the world they come from, and their meaning is connected to the chase. The chase can point to fear being placed inside you, causing you to run away or move in fear.
People play a huge role in your dreams, but they are symbolic. They play a huge role in the message God is giving you, but they are never the focal point. They are contributors to the message.
Anytime you have dreams involving other people, do not focus only on the people. Focus on what is happening around you. What was said to you? Were you headed somewhere? Were you going somewhere? Were you being left behind? Were you falling? Were you flying? Were you going to the airport? Were you in school? Were you in church?
The location of your dream is one of the most important parts of understanding the message.
When you have dreams about other people, it is very important not to go to them and say, “I had a dream about you.” Instead, pray and ask God, “Lord, what does this dream mean about me? What are You trying to show me about myself? Is there something I should learn about myself that You are trying to give me? If so, let me know.”
The most important things about your dream are the location, your thoughts, and your emotions. These three things are the treasures of your dreams because they come directly from God.
You can trust the location you are at because it paints the picture of what God is showing you. Your emotions and your thoughts act as guides. God directly gives them to you to help you understand the symbolism, the people, and the experience you are seeing because these things are true, and they will never lie to you.
All the symbolism will point you toward one focal point. Think about a triangle. A triangle has a wide base, but everything leads upward toward one point. The tip of the triangle is the message of the dream, the purpose, and the reason why you had the dream.
Everything else, including the people, will lead you toward that point. Your location, your thoughts, and your emotions will guide you toward that point.
I call the tip of this triangle the message of the dream, the reason why God is giving you the dream. He is trying to give you an experience filled with symbolism so you can fully understand what He is trying to show you.
What God is trying to show you could be a message, a warning, guidance, an answer to your prayer, something He is trying to reveal to you, or something that is important to you. All of these things should be 100 percent connected to your natural life.
That dream is truly a message that God is using to get your attention. The living God is trying to get your attention so that when you are awake, you can make better decisions, adjust your life, make plans, and know what choices to make.
This encounter and this connection with God have remained untouched, untainted, pure, and unchanged from the beginning of time. It is God interacting with us through our dreams.
It was what it was back in Genesis, and it will be what it is at the end of time. Our dreams from God are sacred. They are pure, and they will never change from the way God designed them to be.
Job 33:14–16
“For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction.”
